Stephen Michael Smith is Music Director
of the Danbury Community Orchestra,
and the Founding Music Director of
the Orchestra at Shelter Rock. His
guest conducting credits include the
Wroclaw Philharmonic Orchestra (Poland),
St. Petersburg Camerata (Russia),
Karlovy Vary Philharmonic (Czech Republic),
Danbury Symphony Orchestra, New Britain
Symphony, St. Luke's Orchestra (San
Francisco), Riverside Choral Society,
Schola Cantorum of Harvard University,
and Coro di Camera (Boston). He has
performed in France, Italy, Portugal,
Greece, and the former Yugoslavia.
Mr.
Smith was chosen twice to participate
in the International Northern Baltic
Festival at the historic Catherine
the Great Theater of the State Hermitage
Museum, St. Petersburg, Russia. He
also currently serves as Music Director
for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation
at Shelter Rock in Manhasset, NY where
he conducts a semi-professional choir,
professional chamber orchestra, and
directs a professional concert series.
During his tenures
as Music Director/Conductor of the
Shrewsbury Chorale of New Jersey and
the Dalton Alumni Chorale of New York
City, Mr. Smith prepared both institutions
for their Carnegie Hall debuts (Verdi's
Requiem and Beethoven's Symphony No.
9) with New York Grand Opera.
